  • Who Was James Watt?

    Tanya Turner

    language (, March 6, 2015)
Many years ago, people used their hands for doing everything, from making food to making clothing and homes. Some machines were powered by animals, wind, or water, but most tools and machines needed to be powered by people’s own hand. People wanted a new source of power to make work faster and easier. This power was steam. Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer James Watt did not invent the steam engine needed to produce steam power but he greatly improved it to make mechanical work easier. James Watt’s improvement of the steam engine made the economy of the whole world change. He made an engine that could be used effectively into something more powerful. Construction became easier with machines, rather than using your own energy and strength. Farming became faster with engines, rather than necessarily using your own hands. Not only that, but his improvement of the steam engine also allowed people to dig mines deeper, pump water further, make trains move, and much more. The steam engine that we have today is all thanks to James Watt.Did you know that during James Watt’s time there were no English books about steam engine? James Watt ended up studying other languages such as Italian and German in order to learn more about the steam engine.Do you want to know more interesting facts about James Watt?Get a copy of “Who Was James Watt?’’ by Tanya Turner and enjoy learning about James Watt!
